Interview a Leader

Purpose:  The purpose of this assessment is to provide you with an opportunity to explore the lived practice of leadership by talking with someone who you consider to act in a leadership capacity. This can be a formal leader, such as someone for who you have worked, or it could be someone such as a parent, teacher, or even a friend, who you perceive to have taken up a leadership role with yourself and others.

Process:

  1. Identify someone you would like to interview and ask if they would be willing to speak with you. The interview may take anywhere between 20 minutes and an hour.
  2. Once you have secured their permission, draw up an interview schedule. Please include within that list of questions:
    1. Questions about the practices/activities/behaviours they see as KEY to undertaking their leadership role
    2. Questions about how they have learned to do these practices/activities/behaviours
    3. Questions about what they have found  most difficult about leading
    4. Questions about any advice they would give to someone aspiring to be an effective leader
